You know that feeling you get when you're walking down the street feeling great and looking confident? Maybe you notice a few heads turn in your direction. Everyone deserves that feeling. "People want to look as good on the outside as they feel on the inside," commented Dr. Anne L. White of Carolina Laser and Cosmetic Center.
Dr. White, a pioneer in the field of cosmetics, was the first person in the Winston Salem area to treat patients with injectable fillers following the FDA approval of Botox in 2002. Prior to the FDA approval, Dr. White received her training in Canada under Dr. Jean Carruthers, the first to use Botox in the field of cosmetic dermatology in North America. Since then, Dr. White has continued to carefully evaluate and assemble her portfolio of laser and cosmetic treatments to provide her patients with the latest and most effective technology and procedures.
You will not find anyone more enthusiastic about their career than Dr. White. Never one to overlook an opportunity, Dr. White combined her medical interests with her love for artistic beauty and created a private practice with an emphasis in cosmetic and laser procedures.
Dr. White's success and the growth of Carolina Laser is largely build upon the relationship she establishes with each one of her patients. Her calm, confident demeanor and warm smile make each patient feel comfortable. It is common to hear patients complement her light touch, soft voice, and artistic eye. Dr. White makes a concerted effort to fully explain the ins and outs of every procedure so that the patient is fully educated before any treatment takes place. "I believe in a crawl, walk, run approach to patient care and our range of treatments and services reflects that," said Dr. White. "Not everyone can afford all of the procedures that would immediately address their cosmetic concerns, so I work with my patients to find a practical and affordable solution that suits their needs."
The newest treatment offered by Carolina Laser and Cosmetic Center is KYBELLA™ a revolutionary, FDA approved prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called "double chin." Once injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella permanently dissolves the fat cells causing the double chin. The dissolved cells are then unable to store or accumulate fat, resulting in a more contoured and refined chin and neck area.
Carolina Laser assures the highest quality of care while maintaining the best, most versatile laser equipment in the State of North Carolina. This includes, but is not limited to laser treatments for skin revitalization, liposuction, hair and tattoo removal. Dr. White personally researches each manufacturer and their equipment to ensure the high standard is met.
"Laser technology is a great advancement in dermatology, but the industry is such that many places can offer lasers without being physician- supervised and without maintaining the calibration of the laser. The maintenance of lasers is very important to make sure burning and scarring of the skin does not occur. Our lasers at Carolina Laser & Cosmetic Center are kept under warranty and serviced regularly by the manufacturer, and are calibrated to keep the machines operating in the proper manner," Dr. White detailed.
A prime example of the next-generation cutting edge laser technology being utilized by Carolina Laser and Cosmetic Center is their new Vectus Laser. The Vectus Laser provides high-volume permanent hair reduction for a wide range of skin and hair types - without sacrificing patient comfort. Featuring the largest spot size and most uniform beam profile available today, the Vectus laser quickly treats unwanted hair. The advanced features help protect the epidermis and help keep patients comfortable throughout the treatment, while the uniform beam profile allows for the most thorough coagulation of hair follicles, reducing the need for multiple, overlapping passes. The Vectus Laser features the only FDA-cleared melanin reader, helping to more safely offer optimized hair removal treatments tailored to each client's skin type, lifestyle, and ethnicity.
Carolina Laser & Cosmetic Center also does more tattoo removals than anyone else in the state and is one of the first facilities in North Carolina to offer the use of the PicoSure Laser. "Clinical studies show that PicoSure is able to treat darker, multi-colored and complex tattoos more efficiently, with unprecedented clearing of blues and greens, in much less time," Dr. White stated. "Because the PicoSure Laser is so fast, the removal of a tattoo requires about half as many sessions as in the past, depending on the factors of each patient, including skin pigmentation, ink colors used in the tattoo, scarring, layering of tattoos, etc. PicoSure treatments are scheduled 6- 8 weeks apart to allow for the fading that occurs following a session and to get the full benefit of PicoSure," commented Dr. White. While tattoo removal has a reputation of being uncomfortable, Dr. White and her staff make patient comfort a priority. "At Carolina Laser & Cosmetic Center, we go to extremes to make patients comfortable during their treatments. For laser tattoo removal, we use a topical and injectable numbing agent, so the discomfort is minimal. Our staff members are either RNs, LPNs or CMAs, and are trained in both laser physics and laser safety by the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery to insure the best care possible."
In addition to her passion for helping patients, Dr. White feels it is important to maintain a nurturing work environment for her staff so that together they can be the best team in the industry.
At Carolina Laser, they believe the more you know, the better they can assist you. Dr. White's practice offers free Lunch & Learn seminars throughout the year and hosts a "Sparkle Party" once a year. This year the Sparkle Party will take place on November 12th, where food and beverages will be provided, vendors will be present to distribute information and discounts will be offered for treatments.
For members of the military and first- responders, such as police and fire personnel, Carolina Laser & Cosmetic Center offers a 30-percent discount for tattoo removal. "Recently our military branches have instituted policies about tattoos and their placement, so many of our service men and women need to have tattoos removed. I believe we should honor those who protect and serve us and the discount we offer for tattoo removal is a way that I believe we can give back to those who give so much to us," stated Dr. White. Carrying that one step further, Dr. White even provides free tattoo removal for veterans annually on Veterans Day!
With her growing practice, Dr. White believes that having a balanced life not only makes her a better physician, but more able to connect with her patients. "My time away from the office is spent doing the things I love most...gardening and cooking. I also spend time with my two beagles, Ollie and Scout, as well as my two cats, Tate and Bob. As the mom of two adult children, Kate Davis, who lives in Asheville, and Ben Davis, who lives in the DC Area, I am busy with all that makes up my life, but I love what I do and the way I am able to help my patients. I wouldn't change a thing," Dr. White said.
