What to Know About BOTOX Injections

Jun 15th, 2021 In: Injectables

What to expect when getting Botox for the first time.

First, what exactly is Botox? Botox is a neurotoxin, made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It can be used to treat many different concerns such as:

  • Temporary smoothing of facial wrinkles and improving your appearance of fine lines
  • Severe underarm sweating
  • Cervical dystonia - a neurological disorder that causes severe neck and shoulder muscle contractions
  • Blepharospasm - uncontrollable blinking
  • Strabismus - misaligned eyes
  • Chronic migraine
  • Overactive bladder

Botox injections work by paralyzing certain muscles or by blocking certain nerves to reduce movement. Botox can last between three to twelve months depending on the area treated however typically it ranges closer to the three-month period.

Currently the most popular use of Botox is for wrinkles and fine lines within the face to improve the appearance. Botox is the most commonly known brand for this neurotoxin but there are many others such as Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin.

Is Botox safe?

Absolutely! It is FDA-approved and has been used for many years.

When selecting an injector make sure to find someone that is certified and has been doing it for several years. Look for before and after photos to see their work and results. Finding a good injector is so important!

With typical injections you could possibly experience slight bruising, soreness or bruising three to five days post-injections but most people do not experience these side effects. Botox does take anywhere from seven to fourteen days to start working so do not stress if you are not seeing results right away. Give the neurotoxin time to work its magic.

After that waiting period, you will love your results! Wait two to three months and then you can come back and get more or when a touch up is just needed.

The Extreme Risks of DIY Lip Filler Pens

Jun 8th, 2021 In: Lips, Injectables
The newest and hottest trend of Summer 2021 is the DIY hyaluronic acid lip pen which is supposed to be a “DIY” lip filler. Typical lip filler consists of injecting hyaluronic acid into the lips for a fuller and plumper look. This can cost up to $800 per syringe and is recommended to get it every four to six months. The results can vary between discreet natural looking lips to very transformative fuller lips.

A “do it yourself” lip filler might sound enticing due to a lower cost and with zero injections, but many do not realize the concerns and risks that follow. The pen is said to be pressured by air, which forces dermal filler through the surface of the lip. This can cause blood vessels in the lip to be blocked and risk of loosing the area or your whole lip.... Read more

There are several eye skin issues that can occur as we age. Dark circles, crow’s feet, wrinkles, eye bags, hooding, and sagging skin. To prevent these and to reverse the signs of aging Carolina Laser and Cosmetic Center has several options available.

A daily skincare regime is a top priority in keeping your eyes looking their best. Moisturizing is one of the most important steps.... Read more

Maskne, The Struggle is Real

Sep 21st, 2020 In: Skin Care, General, Did You Know?
The new normal requires us to wear masks daily. We are covering up our mouths and noses and some of us are developing a new problem - maskne, or mask related acne. When you breath or talk your mask traps in a lot of hot air creating a warm, humid environment that is ideal for yeast and bacteria to grow. These bacteria imbalances and the friction from wearing masks can cause acne breakouts.

Some ways to prevent this is wearing 100% cotton masks, changing your mask frequently especially after perspiring, and washing masks with fragrance free detergents. Use only lightweight lotion or sunscreen and skip the makeup. If you don’t want to skip the makeup make sure it is lightweight and nonocclusive.

Cleansing your face regularly will also help. Cleanse right before putting on your... Read more

Little Leaks Aren’t Just for Faucets

Sep 24th, 2018 In: General
I have two young boys which is evidence that I know a lot about pee. They pee everywhere. What I didn’t know is that I would have peeing issues. It happens when I laugh-I pee, I dance- I pee or do yoga- I pee. It’s no fun.

I exercise and do sit-ups but no matter how many kugels I do, it just doesn’t stop me from leaking. I found out that I could have a type of urinary incontinence known as stress incontinence. This is a common complaint among pregnant women, and some find that it continues to bother them after giving birth. It’s caused from all that pressure on your bladder, plus pregnancy hormones that throw your urinary muscles out of whack.

I have a close friend who is a partner at a law firm. She is constantly making presentations to clients. She told me... Read more
