• Dr. Anne White of the Carolina Laser and Cosmetic
Center in Winston-Salem is one of eight cosmetic
surgeons in N.C. chosen by Allergan Inc. to
participate in the Juvederm Experience Trial. The
trial is designed to gain information from a group
of physicians with expertise in facial aesthetics in
regard to their experience in the use of Juvederm
Ultra and Ultra Plus products. The trial also aims
to evaluate the persistence of, and patient
satisfaction with, the products in daily clinical
practice.
• Marc Schaefer, the president and chief
executive of Truliant Federal Credit Union in
Winston-Salem, received the National Association of
Federal Credit Unions' Paul Revere Award at the 2006
Congressional Caucus in Washington. The award is
given yearly to the person who is most steadfast and
effective in carrying the credit-union banner on key
issues. Schaefer was also recognized by the
association's board for his personal lobbying and
appearance before Congress in May on behalf of the
association.
• Foothills Brewing, a brew-pub and restaurant
Winston-Salem, received a Gold Medal at the recent
Great American Beer Festival competition in Denver.
Foothills received the medal in the Pro-Am
competition for its Baltic Porter, a homebrew recipe
that had previously won awards.
• Dudley Humphrey, the former president of the
N.C. State Bar Association and a longtime partner of
Kilpatrick Stockton LLP in Winston-Salem, received
the Evelyn M. Coman Award for Distinguished Service
in the field of construction law. The award was
presented in conjunction with the N.C. Bar
Association's Construction Law Section's annual
meeting in Greensboro. The award, presented by the
section on as-merited basis, is named in memory of
Evelyn Coman, a founding member of the
construction-law section.
• Appalachian State University in Boone received
an Enterprise All-Star Award from Network World
Inc., a provider of Internet-technology resources,
for outstanding technology projects. The award went
to 40 network Internet-technology projects, with
winners representing the best use of technology
within eight technology categories. Appalachian's
information-technology services network-support team
was recognized for addressing network-security
challenges inherent in providing an open network
while mitigating security risks.
• The Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce in Elkin
and Rebel Good, a Yadkin Valley publisher, were
recognized for their work in promoting the
viticulture industry. They received the Vinifera
Wine Growers Association's Wine Grape Productivity
Trophy at a recent ceremony in conjunction with the
Virginia Wine Festival.
• Holly H. Alderman and Michael H. Godwin were
named for the first time for inclusion in the Best
Lawyers in America publication for 2007. Both are
members of Schell Bray Aycock Abel & Livingston PLLC
in Greensboro. Alderman was named in the real-estate
area, and Godwin in trusts and estates.
• Carolina Christian Supply in Winston-Salem is
celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
• William Benton of Winston-Salem, the chairman
and chief executive of Salem Senior Housing, was
appointed by Gov. Mike Easley to the N.C. Housing
Finance Agency.
• Christian Caballero, a Greensboro College
alumnus and the chief of staff to the Secretary of
the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, was
named a 2006-2007 White House Fellow. The program
gives participants experience in tackling public
policy at the highest level of federal government.
• William M. Marion, an architect at Metropolis
Architecture PLLC in Winston-Salem, was accredited
as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design/LEED
professional, having completed requirements of the
U.S. Green Building Council.
• Keith Robinson was recognized by the American
Society of Safety Engineers' board of directors for
his continuing efforts to increase safety. He is the
division regulatory manager for Valspar Corp., a
global coatings manufacturer, in High Point. He was
key in mobilizing society members to support a bill
that would ban cell-phone use by teenagers under the
age of 18 while driving. He was also recognized for
his work with the society.
• Pam Versaggi received the RELO
certified-coordinator designation by Leading Real
Estate Companies of the World, a real-estate
network. She is the relocation director of Leonard
Ryden Burr Real Estate in Winston-Salem. The RELO
designation is a certification program that
recognizes those who have met educational
requirements and demonstrated knowledge of
relocation and the network's policy and procedures.
• Lexington State Bank received a five-star
rating, the highest, from BauerFinancial Inc., a
national independent bank-rating and research firm.
The rating, which the bank has received for 68
consecutive quarters, recognizes strength and
stability.
