Chemical peels use a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. Chemical peel is most commonly performed for cosmetic reasons -- to enhance your appearance and your self confidence. Chemical peel may also remove pre-cancerous skin growths, soften acne facial scars and even control acne.
Peels are safe and effective exfoliation procedures that remove the top layer of dead skin cells revealing new, healthier cells with little to no recovery time. Peels reduce the appearance of fine lines, improve the texture of environmentally damaged skin, even out skin tone, help control acne, and minimize acne scarring.
A variety of peeling agents and formulations can be used, but the most consistent and commonly used agents are alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and phenol.
