Kelli: Dr. Anne, I have 2 deep lines between my eyebrows that look like the number 11. They make me look stern and worried when I'm not. I really don't want to have Plastic Surgery. Is there anything else you can do to help me with the lines?
Dr. White: Absolutely, Kelli. It's time to stop worrying about those worry lines! Thanks to the magic of Botox Cosmetic, Dysport and other fillers and injectables you no longer need a surgical brow lift to rid you of those pesky frown lines. Botox Cosmetic and/or Dysport are injected into the facial muscles that create the forehead lines to gently relax them and smooth out the overlying skin.
Botox and Dysport injections are FDA approved, safe, effective, and require no downtime. In my office, for those patients who are concerned about pain, we apply a thin layer of topical numbing to the forehead in advance of the procedure making the procedure virtually painless. Botox starts to work 3-4 days after the treatment and Dysport 2-3 days. Both last for 3-4 months with the first treatment and can last longer and require less product for subsequent treatments.
For very deep or static frown lines, lines that are present when the muscle is at rest, I sometimes inject a filler into the fold. Fillers work synergistically Botox and Dysport to completely flatten out deep folds. When a combination is used, the correction can last up to a year.
