How to Get Lovely Legs for Summer

Forsyth Woman - April 2014

Dear Dr. Anne,

I've never had legs like Carrie Underwood's, but they've looked nice enough for me to confidently wear shorts and skirts in spring and summer. Not this year! I can see freckles, old scars from shaving, and bursts of veins all over my legs. What can you recommend for getting my legs ready for summer?

Delia S., Winston-Salem

Dear Delia,

My how youth is wasted on the young ... As the years pass, this same realization happens to most people in the spring when we start to shed our layers of winter clothing in favor of more lightweight and skin baring styles. Here at Carolina Laser & Cosmetic Center we can treat the veins, brown spots, fat pockets, and errant hairs that seem to have appeared overnight. With summer just a few short months away, now is the perfect time to start working on clearing up your legs!

We use lasers for hair reduction to make our legs silky smooth, and lasers and/or BroadBand Light to effectively treat those pesky age spots. Used together with topical creams, we can effectively reduce and sometimes completely eliminate the appearance of age spots.

Laser Vein Treatment Sclerotherapy Winston Salem Greensboro Charlotte BooneLeg veins have a tough job, literally working constantly against gravity. The valves that control the proper flow of blood can weaken and become incompetent as we age. There are several types of these veins: varicose, reticular, and spider veins. Reticular veins, also known as feeder veins, may branch into spider veins. Spider veins or telangiectasias are smaller than reticular veins, look like red or blue spiderwebs on the skin's surface and don't bulge or cause discomfort like varicose veins, but they sure are ugly. Gender, body weight, time spent upright, and  heredity above all, play a role in our getting these veins.

Treatment for these veins is safe, inexpensive, and can be either non- or minimally invasive, depending on the type of vein. We will guide you toward the most effective non-surgical method for removal. Sclerotherapy or injection therapy in simplest terms is the closing of the vein by injecting a solution to irritate the walls of the vein. The vein will collapse and fade from sight.  Laser Vein Treatment works by delivering pulses of light energy into the vein, causing the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body.

Call us today to schedule your consultation, and we'll find the best option to get your legs in lovely shape and ready for summer in no time!

Carolina Laser Named 2014 Ultherapy Ultra Treatment Provider

Mar 12th, 2014 In: Anti-Aging
Proud to announce that Ultherapy has awarded us as a 2014 Ultherapy Ultra Treatment Provider.

Our patients have had great success with Ultherapy ... the only non-invasive procedure FDA-approved to lift skin on the neck, chin and brow.

With Ultherapy, there’s no downtime, no foreign substances, no radical change; just a healthy revving-up on the inside for a natural, noticeable effect on the outside. With Ultherapy, you can go about your day after a single, 60-90 minute in-office procedure.

Ultherapy is not a laser ... it's ultrasound!

Lasers typically address issues in the superficial layers of the skin (e.g. fine lines, wrinkles, pigment changes). Ultherapy is different in that it uses ultrasound to treat the skin's deep foundational layers -- typically... Read more

How to Get Enchanting Eyes

Forsyth Woman - March 2014
Read original article in Forsyth Family

This time of year, even with the official start of spring less than a month away, we may find ourselves feeling down, or maybe even a lot older (when we’re not), and looking it, too. Time waits for no man ... or woman. Inwardly, we may start to feel aches and pains we never had before and due to little exertion. The passing of time is also evidenced outwardly by the skin on our bodies, especially our faces. Does the face peering back at you from the mirror look tired, worried, or angry, when you’re not? Take another look in the mirror - a good long look - and you’ll likely see why.

The effects of aging are typically first noticeable around the eyes, where skin is... Read more

How to Get a HEALTHY GLOW this Winter

Jan 30th, 2014 In: Skin Care

Dear Dr. Anne,

My skin looks as gray, flat and dull as my garden does in winter. I need some color! Wearing more blusher makes it worse, and indoor tanning isn't good for me, from what I've been reading. What healthy ways can I give my skin a mid-winter boost?

Danielle, Lewisville

Dear Danielle,

Outstanding job on passing up indoor tanning as a viable cure for the winter blahs! The rise in skin cancer rates happens to coincide with the growth of indoor tanning. People who tan indoors are 74 percent more likely to develop melanoma, 2.5 times more likely to develop squamous cell carcinoma, and 1.5 times more likely to develop basal cell carcinoma than non-tanners. Indoor tanning is not an option that anyone in the medical community would recommend.
