Spooky Spots Spider Veins

Sep 27th, 2013 In: Anti-Aging

Dear Dr. Anne, Now that golfing and yard work in the hot sun have passed for another year, I'm starting to notice spots popping up on my face, and now even some veins. So if I want to look like a creepy old man for Halloween, I'm all set. Fact is, I don't! Is there a way you can get rid of them?

Trent, Lexington, NC

Dr. Trent, It sounds like what you're describing are Sun Spots and Spider Veins. In the interest of concisely answering your question, I'll spare you my preventative skincare lecture. I must emphasize that it is important for you to use sunscreen daily, whether out in the yard or just out-and-about in your car. Just like you brush your teeth every day, you should apply a little sunscreen every day. I promise if you do you will look much better than your friends that don't use sunscreen!

The spots on your face could be a number of things, and a skin check done in office is the only way to know what they are for sure, and how to treat them. Our lasers treat superficial  brown blemishes, other brown marks like birthmarks, freckles and flat pigmented moles, and now even Melasma. We offer Revlite® Laser Toning, a low energy, low cost, no-downtime procedure that also tightens pores, decreases pigment, stimulates collagen AND makes your skin glow. We also offer the Cutera® Limelight™  and the Sciton BBL™  for exceptionally effective skin rejuvenation treatments with minimal discomfort.

Now let's talk veins ... Known in the medical world as telangiectasias or sunburst varicosities, spider veins are simply small thin veins that lie close to the surface of the skin. Although these superfine veins are connected with the larger venous system, they are not an essential part of it. So while unsightly, spider veins are not a health concern, they do not require surgery or lengthy treatments to be removed and can be easily treated in the office. When you come in for a consultation, we will evaluate your skin and recommend the best treatment options. Facial veins respond better to laser vein treatments, and leg veins to sclerotherapy. We will guide you toward the most effective, non-surgical method for their removal.

So Call us today for a consultation and let the sun set on your spot and vein woes!
